With all of the companies that have had personal information as well as debit and credit cards stolen, does any of that change the way that you spend money either online or in stores (perhaps you're choosing to do less online shopping)?
Do you feel safe when you use a debit or credit card either online or in stores? I personally have always preferred cash over electronic payments because it takes out the chance of an error (perhaps a register taking your card payment twice, as an error).
If you don't feel safe using it, but are continuing to use electronic payments what have you done/what will you do if your card information does get stolen. I know my financial institution has sent me new cards just as precaution, but I know many banks choose not to do this because of the costs involved (if you haven't been sent new cards, are you concerned/if you have been sent new cards, are you still using them as much and in the same way as before).
I usually only shop online at Amazon and eBay. eBay uses Paypal which is a really awesome service. To be honest I don't even think about my card being stolen when I use these services. They seem to be top notch and if my card was stolen I'm pretty sure they would help me out with it
ReplyDeleteI never really worried that much about credit card fraud or anything like that but back when that whole target scam was going on last winter I actually had my information stolen so I had to cancel my card and get a new one. It made me a little more cautious, but I still use it in stores almost always over cash. Last week though my roommate had his information stolen and went completely bankrupt. The bank he's with says it's going to take 3-6 months to get all of his money back. So NOW I'm beginning to think that maybe I'll start using cash over my debit card in stores.
ReplyDeleteSomewhat worried. I have had my credit card stolen, yet the bank returned 5K that was spent not by me. Yes, a lot of money to steal in a matter of one day. Planning to register my new phone for the wallet-less payments through the barcode on my iphone, but I do check my monthly bill for anything that doesn't look right. Technology is advancing at a crazy rapid speed and I plan to keep up.
